Before the 1920s, black attire was mostly associated with somber occasions such as funerals and mourning, and women took this ‘rule’ very seriously coz its wear outside of these vents were a no- no! However, in 1926, Coco Chanel changed this status quo with the introduction of the LBD – Little Black Dress. This iconic creation not only broke away from old-fashioned fashion rules but also showed elegance, affordability, and simplicity. As the cloth manufacturing in factories started picking up, the LBD became a beacon of liberation for women, bringing them freedom from the constraints of ‘olden times” clothing.

Rightfully so, the American Vogue called it “Chanel’s Ford” for it represented style, taste, and elegance yet in reach of the common woman… who could afford it! Its popularity soared over the following decades, culminating in its immortalization by Givenchy in the 1961 film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” where Audrey Hepburn’s portrayal solidified its status as a timeless classic. Over 60 years later, the LBD remains an enduring symbol of sophistication, elegance, and female empowerment, adorning the likes of countless celebrities and fashion icons throughout history. When I did not know better, I thought that this “LBD” is a specific ‘dress’ from a particular designer; what I learnt is that instead, it encompasses any black dress that makes a woman feel classy and comfortable! Over the years, I’ve amassed a collection of ‘LBDs’ and here are my top recommendations:

Casual Ruffle Short/Long Sleeve Wrap V-Neck Dress with Pockets: The perfect LBD for summer – cool, comfortable, stretchy fabric and the V neck is not too deep. Love the empire waist that hides a belly. It can be dressed up or down depending on how you want to wear – a good day to night dress for sure!LBD_1_NineToMomLifeRibbed Knit Bell Sleeve Fit and Flare Midi Dress: A good quality dress for any season! I have worn it on a more formal event, and it is elegant and classy – got many compliments. It hugs the body at the right curves and is very flattering. Fabric is thick and not see thru at all – I would say go for it!LBD_2_NineToMomLifeRetro Ruffle Style Slim Work Pencil Dress: I was in love with this BEAUTIFUL DRESS! I wore it with a formal jacket and the shape was so flattering.  It fit well in all the right places! Paired it with some rhinestone statement necklace and pencil heels. A versatile dress that can be worn on at work, or date night or a cocktail event with friends! LBD_3_NineToMomLifeSleeveless Off Shoulder Bodycon Long Formal Party Evening Dress: A gorgeous soft, smooth dress which is not only comfortable at the right places but also accents the curves nicely. Good material and the attention to details was exceptional, I think. I would pair it with a simple jewelry, which would give it a sophisticated look. I have to say this dress has a very ‘Royal’ feel to it.LBD_4_NineToMomLifeOne Shoulder Sleeveless Split Bodycon Mermaid Evening Cocktail Long Dress: Great material and a the one-shoulder detail was so different! A good stretch in the tummy area was very much appreciated LOL. Definitely a dress if you want to bring your A game to a formal event.LBD_5_NineToMomLifeSleeveless V Neck Split Evening Cocktail Long Dress: Another gorgeous formal black dress – Loved that I did not have to buy a special bra with it. The material is stretchy and thick, and I could wear it with normal 2-2/5-inch heels. Oh, and the lazy person I am, I put it in my washer dryer by mistake and it came out fine – so no dry cleaning.LBD_6_NineToMomLifeHigh Split Flare Sleeve Formal Evening Gowns Maxi Dress with Cape: The cape was so much fun!! At least I had a great time with it… sometimes I get conscious of how big my arms are looking and this dress worked like wonders for that…. good comfort and great fabric… I would say go for it if you have a formal event and you want to be noticeable, in a good way 🙂 LBD_7_NineToMomLifeV-Neck Sequin Long Sleeve Plus Size Formal Evening Dress: This dress is definitely going to “shine” no pun intended. I would say it is definitely for a night event, perhaps and best if we keep accessories simple. Maybe a simple diamond stud. Slit can be stitched. Overall, very well made and apt for any fancy occasion that asks for a black dress! LBD_8_NineToMomLifePolka Dots Square Neck A line Long Sleeve Swiss Dots Mini Dress: It is a cute, good quality black dress, which I have to say I wore with basic black leggings… coz kids! But nevertheless, if you can carry this length, go for it, it is very flattering. I loved the neckline which took the focus on my neck area. 100% recommend!LBD_9_NineToMomLifeSleeveless Lace Floral Elegant Cocktail Dress Crew Neck Knee Length for Party: This dress is soft, stretchy, fits perfect and I loved the lace details. It is very good length and not itchy at all. We can make it formal or casual depending on how we accessories but overall, good bang for the buck!LBD_10_NineToMomLife
