As a boy mom, I often come across lots of advice for boys, how to raise them right – some makes sense and some to me, just does not, in today’s day and age, more on that later! Anyhow, today is my son’s birthday, and here are 10 words of wisdom, as he enters the beginning of his 10th year, that I would like to share with him even though he’s too young to even read this, let alone understand. Happy birthday, my sweet son!
Why do I emphasize on this? Coz, I believe it is my responsibility to raise him as kind man, which will not only make him happy but also sets the stage for positive relationships around him and a world that’s fair and caring. But that’s a post for a different time 🙂
Dream Big – things might seem unachievable at first, but give it your best, sincere shot
Choose Kindness – even when it seems tough, even when you are angry
Take care of yourself physically, healthy body is the biggest wealth
Ask for forgiveness when you have hurt someone, even if your ego tells you not to; and do not just offer an apology
Show up – showing up is half the battle won, especially showing up for the ones you love
Find what makes you truly happy – don’t do things because it makes you look cool, makes you popular… but what gives you joy
Speak up – for those who cannot speak for themselves
Keep your private life, private and never kiss and tell
Always, always respect women – even when you are tempted not to, or you are in a situation of power
You can always come home, back to your family, no matter how far you stray. ALWAYS.
